Meti Solon is a supporting character of Your Throne. She is the wife of Thesion Solon and the mother of Dekis Solon and Medea Solon.
Appearance[]
Meti has long red hair parted down the middle that extends to her waist and wide, purple eyes set in a thin, pale face.
As a highly-esteemed Duchess of the Vasilios Empire, she often wears red lipstick, gaudy jewelry and dark, high-quality fabrics.
Personality[]
As a reputable member of nobility, Meti recognizes the value of power and social status. She is highly ambitious and does not tolerate incompetence within the House of Solon. She neglects her duties as a mother and instead focuses on establishing her presence in high society. Along with her husband Thesion Solon, Meti places importance on attending social functions and focusing on her reputation rather than tending to her children. She values knowledge and expects her offspring to continue the climb up the social ladder. When her expectations are not met, she resorts to mental abuse and threats to accomplish her goals.
Background[]
Growing up, Meti had a weak disposition and poor health.[1] After giving birth to Medea Solon, Meti left Medea in the care of Nana and she was often absent during Medea's childhood, only appearing to severely scold her daughter when her expectations were not met. Although Medea exhibited significant prowess in swordsmanship and her studies, Meti was not satisfied with the results and she insisted that as the daughter of the reputable House of Solon, Medea held the hefty responsibility of earning a name worthy of being recorded in history. Meti provided Medea with exceptional tutors, reminding her daughter that ordinary competency was not worth rejoicing over; Medea had to achieve extraordinary accomplishments. Meti found Medea's deteriorating health trivial and irrelevant.[2] Several years later, Medea unexpectedly lost the crown princess contest and brought the Solon family to shame. Duke Thesion Solon punished Nana in place of Medea, severely beating the maid to death. Concerned about the consequences they would face if the public learned of Nana's death, Meti advised the duke to dispose of Nana's body in the woods, disguising her murder as the work of bandits.[3] Meti then attempted to gift a jeweled necklace to Emperor Vasilios as a sign of good faith. Unbeknownst to the duchess, Eros Orna Vasilios secretly steeped the necklace in poison and presented it to the emperor. Once Emperor Vasilios fainted from the poison, Eros framed Meti for attempting to assassinate a member of the imperial family.[4] Meti was imprisoned for her crime and the once reputable House of Solon was brought to ruins in the eyes of society. After being released from prison, Meti remained bedridden with declining health.[1]
After Medea had ascended to the position of Duchess and won the martial arts contest, Meti woke up in the middle of the night and she desperately asked how long she had been asleep and where the Duke is, only to learn that Thesion is dead. Duchess Solon laughed "like a lunatic" after that and refused to leave her room.[5]
Relationships[]
Eros Orna Vasilios[]
After the crown princess contest, Meti visited the imperial palace to give a gift to Emperor Vasilios and Eros promised the Duchess that he would pass along the gift and her sentiments of maintaining political ties with the House of Solon, despite Medea losing the seat of crown princess. Before he handed the gift to Emperor Vasilios, Eros steeped the jeweled necklace in poison and he then framed Meti for attempting to assassinate a member of the imperial family.[4] After spending time in prison for committing treason, Meti was released and remained bedridden with a failing health.[1]
Emperor Vasilios[]
After Medea unexpectedly lost the crown princess contest, Meti attempted to gift a jeweled necklace to Emperor Vasilios as a sign of good faith. Unbeknownst to the emperor, Eros Orna Vasilios steeped the necklace with poison and presented it to his father. When Emperor Vasilios fainted, Eros accused Meti of attempting to assassinate a member of the imperial family.[4]
Nana[]
After Duke Thesion Solon murdered Nana, Meti reminded him that Nana came from a noble family and she suggested to mask the origins of Nana's death.
Under the duke's orders, Nana's body was mutilated and unceremoniously thrown into a river.[3]
Psyche Callista[]
Meti is unaware that Psyche was inhabiting Medea Solon's body. Since the body-switch occurred after the Duchess was bedridden, she has not interacted with Psyche in person.[6]
Family[]
Medea Solon[]
Although Medea is Meti's only daughter, they do not share a close relationship with each other. Since childhood, Medea sought to seek approval from her mother by excelling in her studies, but to no avail. Meti pushed Medea past her limits, believing that her daughter must achieve a reputation worthy of being recorded in history. Other than checking on Medea's progress, Meti spent many years neglecting her daughter and she regarded Medea's declining health from overworking as trivial and spared no consideration for her daughter's well-being.[2] Despite the cold treatment, Medea expressed genuine concern when Meti fell ill after her imprisonment.[1] Bedridden with poor health, Meti rarely leaves her chambers and was unaware of Psyche Callista inhabiting Medea's body.[6]
Thesion Solon[]
Thesion is Meti's husband who shares her ambitions of furthering the reputation of the House of Solon. Together, they neglected their parental duties and left Medea Solon in the care of Nana. She supported the duke as he counseled Emperor Vasilios over the years.[2]
After Nana's death, Meti suggested to disguise the murder as the work of bandits, to which Duke Solon took her advice and ordered servants to mutilate Nana's body and throw it into a river.[3]
Dekis Solon[]
Dekis is Meti's son who expressed concern for her well-being after her health declined from imprisonment.[1] Before Dekis cut ties with his family, Meti had a lot of pride in her son, but she did not care about his happiness nor the fact that Thesion Solon beat him.[7]
