Medea Solon is the central protagonist of Your Throne. She is the eldest daughter of Duke Thesion Solon who is a childhood friend with the young Marquess Helio Niccolo.
On the day of the Yearly Prayer, Medea made a wish to the Guardian Deity that allowed her to temporarily inhabit the body of Psyche Callista.
Appearance[]
Original Body[]
Medea has straight, purple hair that extends past her waist and large purple eyes framed with thick black lashes set in a small, pale face with a small mole under her left eye. Her frame is slim and lithe with long, strong limbs from frequent training.
As an esteemed noble, Medea often wears lavish gowns of various shades of purple and black with fine jewels.
As the duchess, Medea often wears a ring passed down to heads of the Solon family.
Switched[]
After switching bodies with Psyche Callista, Medea now appears dainty with long, wavy blonde hair styled with an assortment of accessories. She has large, slanted green eyes set in a small, feminine face and a slim body with delicate, frail arms.
As Psyche, she opts to wear lighter-colored gowns, often in various shades of pastel.
Personality[]
As a reputable and high-ranking noble, Medea possesses a certain level of haughtiness. Although she exhibits proper grace and savoir-faire in public as the duke's daughter, she is also known to have an unpleasant temper. Medea often treats those of lower class, typically ordinary civilians and servants, with contempt and condescension. Many find it difficult to associate with her, believing that her terrible personality will cause her trouble in finding a suitor.[6] Since childhood, Medea is disciplined and diligent in her aspirations to become an individual worthy of being recorded in history.[7] She is extremely intelligent and has extensive knowledge on a wide breadth of subjects, including literature and political affairs. Eros Orna Vasilios once mentioned that Medea is so sharp that she can read an entire situation from a single sentence or glance.[4] She is also thoroughly trained in the art of swordsmanship and taught the fiercest warrior of the empire, Helio Niccolo.[8]
Upon taking Psyche Callista's form, she utilizes strategy and manipulation to properly impersonate her archenemy as she awaits to officially become the crown princess of Vasilios. Her uncanny ability to mimic Psyche allows her to fool those closest to Psyche, including Eros. After Nana's death, Medea has been driven by rage to seek justice and exact vengeance on those that severely wronged her. She suffers from frequent nightmares about Nana, unable to overcome the grief and pain from losing her.[8]

Body-Switch[]
The switching of souls between Medea and Psyche Callista is a supernatural phenomenon that does not often occur in the world of Your Throne. It is the result of the concurrent wishes Psyche and Medea made on the day of the Yearly Prayer. The guardian deity of Vasilios granted Medea's wish of living Psyche's life [9] and Psyche's wish of death by allowing her to live as another.[10] Medea deduced that the guardian deity only switches their bodies during instances when Psyche faces imminent danger. After recalling a repressed memory, Psyche discovered the method to return to her original body.[11]

Etymology[]
- The etymology of the name "Medea" derives from the Greek word Μήδεια Mēdeia. Its meaning is either "to ponder" or "be cunning."[12]
- The etymology of the name "Solon" derives from the Greek word Σόλων Sólōn, meaning "wise lawmaker." The name references the Athenian Greek statesman and lawmaker who sought to prevent political, economic, and moral decline in ancient Athens. His legislations eventually served as the foundation for the current Athenian democracy.[13]
Trivia[]
- As part of her character design, Medea is often drawn in various shades of dark purple. This color scheme is employed even when she is inhabiting Psyche Callista's body, serving as a visual representation of her true identity. As Psyche's color scheme is primarily yellow, the two female leads have opposing color schemes, symbolizing the different lives they lead.
- The colour purple is associated with royalty, nobility, luxury, power and ambition. Too much purple brings out qualities of irritability, impatience, and arrogance.[14]
- In Greek mythology, Medea was the daughter of King Aeëtes of Colchis, a niece of Circe, and the granddaughter of the sun god Helios.[15]
- Medea was a sorceress from Colchis who betrayed her own family in order to help Jason on his quest for the Golden Fleece. In return, Jason married Medea and started a family with her after completing the quest. He eventually left her for another woman (Creusa), incurring her wrath. Medea then spent the rest of her life on a vengeful quest to destroy Jason, earning a nasty reputation among gods and humans.[15]
- Medea was married to Jason for 10 long years until he abandoned her to wed a king's daughter named Creusa while Medea and her sons were to be banished from the land. In Your Throne, Medea's long engagement to Eros Orna Vasilios is a reference to her decade-long marriage to Jason. Just like Jason, Eros deserted Medea for another woman (in this case Psyche). [16]
- In Euripides' play Personae of Medea, Emma Griffith states Medea does not fit into the mold of a “normal woman” according to Athenian philosophy. She is depicted as having great intelligence and skill, something typically viewed as a masculine trait by Euripides' original audience. On the other hand, she uses that cunning in order to manipulate the men around her, and manipulation of other people would have been a negative female trait to the Athenian audience.[17]
- In Episode 1 and Episode 2, Eros chooses Psyche as his future crown princess, despite Medea winning the crown princess competition. Betrayed and scorned, Medea fed Psyche a drug that, mixed with the odor of the red lilies that Medea had gifted her, became poisonous.[6][18]
- This incident alludes to Euripides's version of the Greek mythological tale, where the legendary hero Jason abandoned his wife, Medea, in favor of a young princess. Medea sent the princess a dress laced with poison as revenge, killing the young girl.[19]
