Background[]

Psyche conveyed her concerns to the servants about the manor’s neglectful security that allowed her father to be harmed. To ensure Psyche maintained complete trust in them, the servants decided to make one person a scapegoat to take the blame for harming Count Callista. Lira, the latest addition to the laundry room, agreed to take the fall to support his destitute siblings as they would receive a large compensation if he were to die. Instead of punishing Lira, Psyche kept him by her side. Days went by and Lira grew frustrated by her continued kindness, hoping to be punished so his siblings could live comfortably. When Lira confronted Psyche, she admitted that death was a terrible thing and there was something she wished to hear from him. As he struggled to comprehend her words, he at last reached his limit when he accompanied Psyche home when they had gone out to buy herbs. On their way home, it began to rain and they stopped by a river where they encountered a rabbit with red eyes whose legs were caught in a bear trap.

Psyche’s intention to save the rabbit provoked Lira into revealing his true feelings about her, envious of her comfortable and lavish lifestyle while he struggled hard to simply afford sugar. Psyche, finally understanding his emotions, plunged into the river to rescue the rabbit. To his shock, Psyche apologized for her actions and asked him to join her side. As she healed the rabbit with her divinity, Psyche questioned who had hurt him, his eyes were the same as the poor rabbit, red eyes that radiated despair.[1]

Etymology[]

  • The name “Lyra” is of Greek and Latin origin, it is a variation of the name “Lyre” which was a stringed instrument similar to a harp, dating back to 1400 BCE in Greece. [2]

Trivia[]

  • Lyra (/ˈlaɪrə/; Latin for lyre, from Greek λύρα) is a small constellation in the northern sky. Lyra’s brightest star, Vega, is the fifth brightest star in the night sky.[3]
  • In Greek Mythology, the constellation represents the lyre of the Greek hero Orpheus. Made by Hermes from a tortoise shell, given to Apollo as a bargain, Orpheus's music was said to be so great that even inanimate objects such as rocks could be charmed. Joining Jason and the Argonauts, his music was able to quell the voices of the dangerous Sirens, who sang tempting songs to the Argonauts.[4]
