Emperor Vasilios was a supporting character of Your Throne. He is the former monarch of the Empire of Vasilios who met his demise when his son, Eros Orna Vasilios, sends assassins to kill him and then fabricated it to look like a suicide.
Appearance[]
Emperor Vasilios has straight, dark blue hair, sharp, silver eyes and his pale, warm-toned skin is slightly wrinkled by age.
As the head of the imperial family, he always wears lavish clothes of fine silks and furs, adorned by gaudy jewelry that signify the imperial wealth. During official events, he wears a crown and carries a royal scepter.
Personality[]
As the current ruling monarch, Emperor Vasilios appears to be a wise and rational leader who approaches empire affairs through careful calculation and thorough counseling. His advisors, including Duke Thesion Solon, are chosen based on their intellect and insight on affairs of the empire. Rather than a benevolent leader who uses idealistic approaches to support the commonwealth, Emperor Vasilios executes realistic laws and policies that would benefit the aristocracy and nobility. Along with the rest of the imperial faction, he struggles to manage the power balance with the Temple of Vasilios.
Background[]
Many years prior to the current timeline, the Vasilios Empire was in danger a famine and Emperor Vasilios was unsure how to solve the issue, but Duke Thesion Solon proposed to trade with a neighboring territory in exchange for sending protection. This solution allowed the empire to avoid famine and offered hands-on training to the knights while also strengthening foreign relationships. Emperor Vasilios was greatly impressed and rewarded the duke for his great contributions to the empire. Over the years, the emperor grew to value Thesion's insight on political affairs and promised to wed Medea Solon and Eros Orna Vasilios as the marriage would strengthen the ties between the imperial family and the ducal house.[1] However, Eros refused the engagement and insisted on holding a Crown Princess contest to choose his future fiancée instead. Although perplexed by his son's actions, the emperor agreed to invite both Medea and Psyche Callista to compete.[2]
He oversaw the last round of the competition where each contestant presented a hypothetical policy that would benefit the empire. Psyche proposed a policy that would support the lowest economic class while Medea's policy benefited the aristocracy and nobility. Emperor Vasilios was thoroughly delighted by Medea's knowledge of political affairs and was in favor of naming her as the future Crown Princess.[3] Despite Medea's clear win in the competition, Eros chose Psyche as his future life companion and the public was swayed by Psyche's policy in the third round and supported the Crown Prince's decision. Although he wished to have Medea as a daughter-in-law, Emperor Vasilios was forced to accept Psyche instead.[4] Soon after the competition, Emperor Vasilios received a necklace from the House of Solon as a sign of good faith. Unaware that the necklace was steeped in poison, the emperor put on the gaudy jewelry and fainted from the toxins. Under the Crown Prince's orders, the House of Solon was accused of committing treason for attempting to assassinate the ruling monarch and the ties between the imperial family and the House of Solon were thus severed.[5]
Relationships[]
Thesion Solon[]
Up to several years prior to the current timeline, Thesion and Emperor Vasilios shared a strong and political alliance as Duke Solon offered counsel to the emperor and was a large factor in saving the Vasilios Empire from famine. Unaware that Medea was the one who came up with the solution, Emperor Vasilios rewarded the duke for his great contributions to the empire. Over the years, Thesion gradually gained the Emperor's favor and became a trusted counsel to the imperial family. Emperor Vasilios was thoroughly impressed with what he believed was Thesion's insight and intelligence. He eventually promised to wed Medea Solon and Eros Orna Vasilios, strengthening the ties between the imperial family and the ducal house.[1]
Medea Solon[]
Pleased with Duke Thesion Solon's political achievements and contributions to empire affairs, Emperor Vasilios offered Eros Orna Vasilios' hand in marriage to Medea.[1] He remained invested in joining hands with the House of Solon even when Eros insisted on cancelling the engagement and holding a Crown Princess contest.[2] During the last round, the emperor was thoroughly impressed by Medea's keen intellect and knowledge on empire affairs. He assumed her insight was a result of being raised by Thesion, whom the emperor holds to the highest esteem.[3] Although he was in favor of naming Medea as the Crown Princess, Eros defied his father's wishes and took Psyche Callista as his fiancée. Since Eros gained the public's support for his decision, Emperor Vasilios had no choice but to abandon Medea.[4]
Meti Solon[]
After Medea Solon unexpectedly lost the Crown Princess contest, Meti attempted to gift a jeweled necklace to Emperor Vasilios as a sign of good faith. Unbeknownst to the emperor, Eros Orna Vasilios steeped the necklace with poison and presented it to his father. When Emperor Vasilios fainted, Eros accused Meti of attempting to assassinate a member of the imperial family.[5]
Psyche Callista[]
As the future Crown Princess, Psyche is set to become Emperor Vasilios' daughter-in-law and he accepted her, despite favoring Medea Solon during the Crown Princess contest.[4]
Family[]
Eros Orna Vasilios[]
Eros is the son of Emperor Vasilios. Although Emperor Vasilios cares for his son, he severely underestimates Eros' deceitful nature and is incapable of thwarting his schemes. When Eros was forcibly engaged to Medea Solon, he easily convinced the emperor to hold a Crown Princess contest instead.[2] Emperor Vasilios was then forced to abandon Medea when Eros, with the public's support, chose Psyche Callista as the future Crown Princess.[4] After the competition, Eros poisoned his own father and framed the House of Solon.[5]
Empress[]
When Duchess Meti Solon visited the imperial palace to gift jewels after Medea Solon lost the crown princess competition, Eros Orna Vasilios mentioned that the emperor was preoccupied in a discussion with Eros' mother.[5]
